Full House At Last (Part 1)

hoaloha = friend

First to Arrive – my family 🙂

Troy, River and River’s girlfriend Marielle arrived at last at the beginning of August! They looked pretty good after making the long trip and lugging around the full allotment of luggage (3 people x 2 checked bags x 50 lbs each + 2 carry-ons each = 2 separate trips for my Mazda). We celebrated with a late lunch at Genki, which is a super yummy Asian diner where you order small plates from your phone and a little bullet train delivers them to your booth.

Next up – the Szczur-Higgins-Gonzalez Ohana

The next day, one of my very best friends and her fabulous family arrived to spend the week with us. Monika, Tom, Timmy and Jimmy landed on Monday and they absolutely brought the aloha! We had the most amazing time exploring the island together, but first we got River moved into his new apartment in the St. Louis Heights neighborhood. Luckily, we had four strong teenagers to rely on.

First Stop Together – Waimanalo Beach

I have loved this beach since the first time I stepped onto it in March 2023 – miles of white sand, views of lush offshore islands, a soft surf ocean in intoxicating hues of blue, and a shady tree border to keep you cool if you need a nap. We parked at River’s favorite spot on the street behind McDonald’s and spent a relaxing few hours here, before popping over to the more adventurous Sandy Beach.

Next up – Halona Beach Cove + Lanikai Pillbox Hike

Monika, Tom, Timmy and Jimmy did lots of exploring on their own during their visit, but thanks to my mainland working hours, I was able to join in on a lot of their fun!

After I got off of work the next day, we took our second excursion together, first stopping at one of our fave places, Halona Cove Beach, and then hiking the STUNNING Lanikai Pillbox trail.

To reward ourselves, and process the incredible beauty of what we’d just experienced, we indulged in adult beverages at Maui Brewery in Kailua.
