Kalalau (Kaua’i)

Troy and I were invited by our lovely friend Ilse to stay with her on Kaua’i over a long weekend in November, and the highlight was exploring one of the most spectacular hikes in the whole world, the Kalalau Trail!
The trail is 11-miles of strenuous sea cliff terrain, constant up and down, muddy, rocky jungle-y paths that lead from one soul-expanding view to the next. We hiked the first two miles and back, from Ke’e Beach to Hanakāpīʻai Beach, which took around four hours.
I can’t help but share dozens of our best photos, which tell the story so much better than I ever could. Please please please do yourself a favor and make this journey yourself if you’re ever in this part of the world!

Not long after our first stop overlooking Ke’e Beach, we saw a lovely rainbow beckoning to us.

And not long after that, our first staggeringly beautiful views of the Napali coast.

The flora and fauna along the trail is also enchantingly beautiful.

Our destination was the Hanakāpīʻai Beach, where a river meets up with powerful surf, creating mesmerizing waves and fascinating beach patterns.

If all of that incredible beauty weren’t enough, then there’s the dreamy cerulean blue hues of the ocean expanse.

We gathered up all of the beauty we could into our reserves. I’ve already made it a goal to return to this incredibly special place.
