Holiday Boat Parade, HK Style
Mele Kalikimaka = Merry Christmas! (or as close as you can get in Hawaiian)
We threw ourselves into experiencing the holidays Hawaiian-style, and the biggest event of our season was the Hawai’i Kai Boat Parade. We had the wonderful fortune of having friends Sai, Sanil and Arav passing through town which made the whole night so much more fun!

The boats took a while to get to our part of the marina, but seeing the silhouettes against the sunset and watching the neighbors prepping their boats for the line-up was still lovely.

The floats were impressive, with themes from the classical (reindeer, snowmen) to contemporary (Beetlejuice, Barbie). Most had music and dancing, There were over 50 floats / boats total.

It was a highly festive kick-off to the season, and I now have a whole year to make friends with someone with a parade boat . . .
