White Plains

Chill. Unassuming. Friendly. Regular folks living regular lives in a working class area of O’ahu called Ewa, teaching their kids to surf, taking a break from military service, boogie boarding, SUPing. White Plains is a fun place on the leeward coast to spend an afternoon.

Our lovely neighbor friends took us for a gentle introduction to surfing. (Well, okay, technically a re-introduction but I’m not counting that one lesson I took twenty years ago in Huntington Beach.) We borrowed their 8-foot soft top Wavestorms and spent a couple of hours wrestling and riding the waves. I’m not sure you’d call what Troy and I did “surfing,” but we did enjoy connecting with the ocean in a new way.

I look forward to visiting this beach on many another lazy Sunday – even if it’s just to “mermaid around.”
